College of Engineering and Computer Science - Undergraduate Programs

Undergraduate: Academic Support: Holds:

At UCF there are certain circumstances that will cause students records to be placed on hold. A hold is an indicator that notifies a student that they are expected to perform a certain task. This task could vary from talking to an advisor to paying for a parking ticket. When a student's records are on hold there are services that they will not be able to do until the hold is removed. The most common and notable of these services is the student's ability to register for courses. Almost all holds will keep a student from registering for additional courses (students can always drop and withdraw from courses before the university deadlines), however some will impact other services such a requesting transcripts, or use of library resources.

Students should consult their online UCF account to find out if the have any holds on their record. If holds are present a brief description will be provided of the reason for the hold as well as an office that can be contacted for additional information. The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) currently only uses one hold for undergraduate students, requiring them to seek mandatory advisement. This hold is placed on a student's record if they are an Engineering Undecided major or if they are on probation. This hold only keeps a student from registering for additional courses and does not impact any other services (will not stop dropping or withdrawing from courses). The pending hold requires a student to see an academic advisor in the Academic Affairs Office and get them to approve a schedule plan for the upcoming semester before a student can register. The probation hold requires students to attend a probation workshop and small group advising session. Until these two components are completed a student will remain on hold. Students can download the Course Approval Form or pick it up in the Academic Affairs Office (AAO) in ENGR 107. Once the form is completed and signed by an advisor it should be turned in to AAO to have the hold temporarily removed to allow registration. For more information about probation and Engineering Undecided majors please see other parts of this website.

Holds can only be removed by the office that placed them on a student's record. Due to this CECS will not be able to lend much assistance with regard to holds placed by other offices outside the college. It is recommended that a student always contact the office listed as the contact for the hold. This will be the best way to find out how to proceed to get a hold removed.
