Undergraduate: Academic Support: Overrides
An override allows a student to be registered for a
course that he or she would not normally be able to register
for. This may be for many different reasons, including
but not limited to the class being full, not meeting
prerequisites, or time conflicts between courses. Students
seeking an override should follow the steps listed below:
- Attempt to register for the course through the online
registration system at my.ucf.edu. If this registration
is not successful make sure to note the error that
is indicated in the error log accompanying the notice
of unsuccessful registration.
- Determine what department teaches the course that
you are seeking an override for. This is sometimes
very apparent such as Chemistry I CHM2045 being taught
by the Chemistry department. In other cases it is not
so apparent, for example Statics EGN3310 is taught
by the Civil Engineering department. If you are not
sure what department teaches a course consult the course
catalog. Each course description lists an abbreviation
of the department teaching the course.
- If the course is taught by a department within the
College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) a course
override form will need to be completed. If the course
is taught by a department outside of CECS, even if it is a course required for
one of our majors such as calculus, this override form
can not be used. In such cases contact the department
teaching the course and they will inform you how to
proceed.
- Once the override form has been filled out it must
be approved. To accomplish this take the form to the
office of the department teaching the course. In most
cases a representative with the office will sign the
form. However in some cases the student will be directed
to the instructor that will be teaching the course
to sign and approve the form.
- Once the form is complete and signed by the department
teaching the course, you will still need to be registered in the course. The form should be brought to the Engineering
and Computer Science Academic Affairs Office in the
ENGR 107 for all engineering
courses or CSB 201 in the
case of Computer Science or IT courses.
- Once the staff at these offices confirms that the
form has been completed correctly the courses will
be added to the student’s schedule.
- After the course is added students should consult
their MyUCF account in order to ensure that they
are aware of any changes that may have occurred on
their fee invoice.
